Importance of rest and recovery after workouts

Importance of rest and recovery after workouts.

Our bodies repair and strengthen itself in the time between workouts, and continuous training can actually be harmful to the body. Rest is physically necessary so that the muscles can repair, rebuild and strengthen. Getting eight hours of sleep each night is very critical for your muscles to recover, it is also important for your brain to function properly.

During recovery the body replenishes energy and repairs damaged tissues. When you work out your body changes in that the muscle tissues break down and you lose your energy and fluids in your body as well. Recovery time allows these to replenish and allows tissues to repair in the body. Without time to repair and replenish, the body will continue to breakdown from intensive exercise.

Resting is also important for muscular gains and fat loss, as the muscle tissues breakdown during a workout the recovery time is when the tissues are being repaired, when they are being repaired they grow back bigger and stronger, and it’s at this point where the fat is being used as energy and being burned up.

Needless to say, rest is a very important element in exercising and training.
